A 12 oz. and a 16 oz. can are the most-common aluminum can sold across beer breweries, kombucha brewers, and even wineries. Here is how you can go about measuring a can or bottle for the right label size. This process can be used for various sizes of bottles and cans.
Recommended Sizes
If you're canning in tall and slim cans, maybe for a seltzer of sorts, we suggest a slightly taller label because these cans are, well, a bit taller. Since all of our glossy white, matte, and clear labels are water resistant, you don't have to worry about the labeling process around the beverage you are canning. These labels will withstand a prolonged period without peeling, curling, or fading if exposed to oils and liquids in products after they have been applied - just make sure to apply them to a clean surface!

How do our labels stick on your bottles? Regardless of the size you need, you can rest easy knowing all of our labels have the same durable adhesive, giving them a very strong hold. Glass bottles, like cans, come in a variety of sizes. Whether you are looking to label your traditional long-neck glass bottle or go for a larger 22 oz, we've got you covered. Is there a difference between bottling a glass bottle versus an aluminum can? Aside from size, our labels are finished on a roll, making them perfect for labeling both cans and glass bottles of various sizes. If you're using an application machine, be sure to check your labeler before ordering to decide the direction you want your labels to be printed on the roll. Label Application Best Practices: Larger production canning and bottling lines comes with label application built-in. If you don't have that option, there are separate labeling devices you can purchase to utilize after your can or bottle is filled and sealed (bonus - our labels will adhere after you wipe off the sanitizing liquid from the can or bottle)! If you're labeling your bottles or cans by hand, we'd recommend opening a low-fill to assist you in that creative endeavor!

What if the design for my label is meant to overlap? If your design overlaps, make sure it does not cover important information (like legal and cautionary information). This is something to think about when you're designing your label.

If you have extra space on your label, what are some things you can add to your design? When you brew cool beer, you want a cool label! Use that extra space for branding and include things like your website, social handles, or a quirky short note about the brew. More space = amazing opportunity to brand like a pro! If you've got a can or bottle return program, note that on your label and let your drinkers know right on the label, and don't worry, our labels will peel off with ease for simple return or recycling if you need them too.

Why do I want to leave space between the label?
The edges of your labels might contain important information, like government warnings and barcodes, that you don't want to cover up. To avoid overlap and waste, we recommend a label that is slightly shorter than the circumference of the bottle/can of your choosing. This will allow for a slight gap between the label, which also means less room for error, and makes for a happy brewer! Be sure to check your local laws, including the Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB) if you're distributing your beer, to find out what you legally need to have displayed on your label for your state.
