A major maintenance program kicked off on May 20 along the Houyue Railway and the Houma North rail hub—critical arteries for moving coal out of southern Shanxi. The effort aims to reinforce rail infrastructure ahead of the summer peak transport season.

Scheduled to run through June 27, the maintenance includes a daily 180-minute work window. The Houyue Railway, which runs from Houma in Shanxi to Yueshan in Henan, is a vital southern corridor for coal exports from the province, with annual freight volumes exceeding 100 million tonnes.

From January through mid-May, China Railway’s Taiyuan bureau moved 37.68 million tonnes of cargo via the line, up 2.4% year-on-year.
