China added 19.96 gigawatts (GW) of new grid-connected wind power capacity between January and April 2025, according to data released by the National Energy Administration (NEA) on May 22. The figure marks an increase of 3.12 GW compared to the same period last year.
By the end of April, the country’s total installed power generation capacity stood at 3.49 billion kilowatts (GW), up 15.9% year-on-year. Solar power accounted for 990 million kilowatts, a 47.7% increase from a year earlier, while wind power reached 540 million kilowatts, up 18.2%.
Average utilization of power generation equipment nationwide was 1,008 hours during the four-month period, down 103 hours from the same time last year. Investment in power generation projects by major energy companies totaled RMB 193.3 billion, a 1.6% increase year-on-year. Spending on power grid infrastructure reached RMB 140.8 billion, up 14.6%.
