Shenzhen has launched Lingxi, China’s first AI-powered large language model designed specifically for urban power grid dispatching, marking a significant step forward in the application of artificial intelligence to grid operations. Unveiled on May 15, Lingxi was developed on the foundation of China Southern Power Grid’s “Great Watt – Tianxuan” dispatching platform. It brings intelligent capabilities to three core areas of power grid management: monitoring, control, and analysis.

In monitoring, Lingxi can automatically identify grid faults and generate handling strategies, enhancing real-time situational awareness. In control, the model reviews dispatch instructions, flags potential risks such as skipped steps or misidentified equipment, and provides intelligent oversight. In analysis, dispatchers can interact with Lingxi directly, prompting it to retrieve simulation cases from embedded sub-models, run N-1 contingency analyses, and return tailored operational suggestions.

“Lingxi gives our dispatching system a thinking brain,” said Huang Fuquan, General Manager of the Shenzhen Power Dispatch and Control Center. “It’s already showing early signs of self-learning and intelligent decision-making, bringing real improvements to our day-to-day operations.”

Lingxi is now in active use in Shenzhen’s grid control operations and has already demonstrated practical results, underlining its potential as a new digital engine for China’s urban power networks.
